1895 – Born on the 13th of October at Kulm in West Prussia.
1914 – He abandoned his studies and joined the German Army.
1918 – He joined the Social Democratic Party.
1924 – He was elected to the Wurttemberg Landtag.
1928 – He became the SPD leader in the state.
1930 – He was elected to the national legislature.
1932 – In August he was elected to the SPD leadership group at age 38, he was youngest SPD memberof the legislature.
1933 – He was arrested and severely beaten in prison by the Nazis and spent the next ten years inconcentration camps at Hueberg, Kuhberg.
1946 – British and Americans allowed the SPD to reform itself as a national party, with Kurt Schumacher as leader.
1952 – Died on the 20th of August at the age 57.
