1904 – Born on the 23rd of September in Shavel Šiauliai, Lithuania.

1907 – His family immigrated to the United States.

         – He received his bachelors’ and doctorate degrees from Columbia University.

1928 – He began teaching.

1952 – Became a full professor at Columbia.

1964 – The Parma Ildefonsus.

         – Schapiro was a proponent of modern art, and published books on Van Gogh and Cezanne and various essays on modern art.

         – He was a founder of Dissent, along with Irving Howe and Michael Harrington.

1996 – Died on the 3rd of March in New York City at the age of 91.
