1959 – He received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Augsburg College in in Minneapolis.

1960 – He was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives.

1969 – He served as a Minority leader to the Minnesota House of Representatives.

1973 – He became Speaker to the Minnesota House of Representatives.

1978 – He was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives, and was reelected thirteen times

               without serious opposition.

1981 – He was re-elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives, until present.
