1912 - Born on March 17th in West Chester, Pennsylvania. American black civil rights leader.

         - He founded New York branch of Congress of Racial Equality (CORE).

1963 - He was the chief organizer of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, at which Dr. King delivered his famed "I Have a Dream" speech.

1987 - He died of heart failure on August 24th in New York City.
