US (Polish-born) author and political scientist.
1908 - Born on the 11th of April in Lodz, Russian Empire (now Poland).
1911 - Immigrated to US.
1937 - Finished PhD, at the University of Chicago.
1937-1968 - Wrote fiction "The Education of H*Y*M*A*N K*A*P*L*A*N" 1937 (under pseudonym Leonard Q. Ross), nonfiction "The Joys of Yiddish" 1968.
1968 - Encyclopedic volume The Joys of Yiddish (1968), a guide to the Yiddish language and to Jewish culture (as well as a source for anecdotes and Jewish humor).
1976-1982 - It was followed by "O Kaplan! My Kaplan!" 1976, and Hooray for Yiddish! (1982) , a humorus lexicon of the American language as influenced by Jewish culture.
1997 - Died on 19th of February in New York.
