1930 - Faith Ringgold, born on the 8th of October is an African-American artist and author. She was raised in Harlem and educated at the City College of New York, where she studied with Robert Gwathmey and Yasuo Kuniyoshi.
1955 - She attended City College of New York, where she received B.S.
1959 - She received her and M.A. degrees.
1981 - Her mother died, and she started making quilts as a tribute to her. During that time, she was trying to get her autobiography published, but no one wanted to print her story.
1983 - She began writing stories on quilts, as an alternative. That way, when her quilts were hung up to look at, or photographed for a book, people could still read her stories. She have “written” 30 story quilts since then.
2007 - She currently serves on the art faculty at the University of California, San Diego.
