1935 - Born on December 14th in Quincy, Massachusetts.

1957 - Studied dance and worked on stage and TV before making her film debut as a sexy Southern majorette in Elia Kazan's A Face in the Crowd.

         - Married to Bill Colleran on August 3rd.

1958 - Appeared as Eula Varner in The Long, Hot Summer.

1962 - She won an Academy Award nomination for her role as the alcoholic wife of Jack Lemmon in Days of Wine and Roses.

1966 - Was nominated for Broadway's Tony Award as Best Actress (Dramatic) for "Wait Until Dark."

1970 - Married to Kip Gowans on December 12th.

1988 - She formed a production company with partners James Garner and Peter K. Duchow.

1989 - Discovered she had tumors on her kidneys and lungs while filming in France.

1990 - Received the Women's International Center (WIC) Living Legacy Award.

1991 - Died of live and kidney cancer on July 2nd in Los Angeles, California.
