1932 – He was born on the 19th day of October this year in Highland Park, Illinois, and christened John Robert Rietz, Jr., He spent much of his childhood in Oklahoma and later studied Shakespeare in college, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

 

1961 – He first gained fame for starring along with E.G. Marshall in the television drama series “The Defenders.”

 

1969 – He was also starred on the sitcom “The Brady Bunch .”

 

1974 – After the end of The Brady Bunch this year, he acted on the stage and made many guest star appearances on other television shows and made-for-TV movies, including Pray for the Wildcats.

 

1975 – He won critical acclaim for his portrayal of a doctor who wants to undergo a sex-change operation in a two-part episode of Medical Center.

 

1981 – He played the regular role of Dr. Adam Rose in the hospital drama Nurse.

 

1992 - Like many homosexual actors, he was secretive about his sexuality. He died this year at age 59 in Pasadena, California, from colorectal cancer caused by the presence of HIV. He was buried in Skokie, Illinois.
