1948-1951

- established his post-World War II reputation on careful craftsmanship and the humanist concerns through his “social-problem” films which are the following:

• "The Search" in 1948
• "The Men" in 1950
• "Teresa" in 1951

1952 - directed the film "High Noon"

1953 - also did the Academy Award winning "From Here to Eternity"

1966 - won a second Oscar trophy for "A Man for All Seasons"

1977 - nominated as Academy's best director for "Julia"

1997 - died on March 14
