1806 – He was born on the 16th day of July this year in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
1831 – After a several years of study at the United States Military Academy, he entered the Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant. 1836 – He attains the rank of First Lieutenant.
1845 – He sailed on the Columbus and Congress during Mexican-American War.
1847 – He also took part in the conquest of California, and was brevetted to the rank of Major gallantry during the action at the San Gabriel River. Then later he took part in the capture of Los Angeles.
1861 – He commanded a company of Marines at the battle of Manassas and was slightly wounded. Later, he went to the sea gain under Admiral John Dahlgren.
1864 – He was appointed Commandant of the marine Corps in the rank of Colonel after he assumed command of the Marine Barracks at Portsmouth, new Hampshire.
1874 – He became the Marine Corps' first general officer when he was promoted to Brigadier General.
1876 - Brigadier General Zeilin retired from the Marine Corps.
1880 – He died in Washington, D.C on the 18th day of November this year and he was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
