Younghusband, Francis Edward, Sir

1863- Born on May 31; birth of a British explorer and military officer

1882 -He joined the army and traveled extensively through northern India and Tibet searching for trade routes.

-His explorations of these areas and of china added greatly to the existing geographical knowledge.

1904 -Lord Curzon, viceroy of India; sent Younghusband with a military expedition to Lhasa, Tibet, where he forced the Dalailama, Tibet's leader; to sign a trade treaty.

-Younghusband later surveyed the Brahmaputra and sutlej rivers.

1942- Died on July 31
