1796 – He obtained a medical degree at Goettingen.
1799 – He began to practice medicine in London.
1802 – He became foreign secretary of the Royal Society, a British scientific organization.
1811 – He was appointed to the staff of Saint George's Hospital, London. He served on several official scientific commissions.
1818 – He was secretary to the Board of Longitude and editor of Nautical Almanac. In the science of optics, Young discovered the phenomenon of interference, which helped to establish the wave nature of light.
1829 – He died on the 10th day of May this year in London.
