Yevstushenko, Yevgeny Alexandrovich

-A leading postwar Soviet poet
-Reintroduced the love lyric to Russian literature, and during the political thaw following Stalin’s death he led the struggle against superficial optimism in poetry.
-in his most famous poem,
-“Babi Yar”(1961; Eng.,1962), Yevtushenko spoke out against anti-semitism.
-That same year he made his first trip to the United States and has since given many readings of his poems abroad.
-His Precocious Autobiography (1963; Eng. Trans., 1963) incurred the wrath of the Soviet authorities, forcing him simultaneously to apologize for and defend the right to self-determination.
