American talk show host. 1971 - She won the "Miss Black Tennessee" when she was 18.- Graduated from East Nashville High School in Nashville, Tennessee. 1976 - Graduated from Tennessee State University. 1985 - Starred in movie "The Color Purple" as Sofia. 1986 - Host and eponym of nationally syndicated television show "The Oprah Winfrey Show". - Dated and cohabited with self-help author Stedman Graham. 1987 - Received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Drama from Tennessee State University. 1989 - Earned her Academy of Achievement award. 1994 - Co-wrote the book "Oprah Winfrey: The Real Story" by George Mair. - Inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca, New York. 1996 - Introduced Oprah's Book Club. 1998 - She was a cast in the movie "Beloved" as Sethe. 1999 - Given an honorary National Book Award for her "influential contribution to reading and books". 2000 - She founded magazine "O: The Oprah Magazine". - Recipient of the Spingarn Medal. 2005 - She was ranked by Business Week as one of America's top 50 most generous philanthropists. 2006 - Collapsed from heat exhaustion during a recent visit to her hometown of Kosciusko, Mississippi. 2007 - Diagnosed with thyroid disorder.
