1999-2000 - West had already earned some production credits on albums by rappers such as The Madd Rapper, Trina and Tamara, and Lil' Kim.
2001 - West began to build a career as a producer in his own right.
- Made his European television debut performing his song "Through the Wire" on "Raymann is laat".
2002 - West still had ambitions to establish a career as a solo performer. He submitted a demo tape to Roc-A-Fella Records and (with the support of sometime collaborator Jay-Z) he soon found himself with a record contract.
- He was driving home from a studio session and fell asleep behind the steering wheel and crashed into another car.
2004 - Kanye West's debut effort The College Dropout finally materialized, immediately earning an enthusiastic reception from both critics and fans.
2005 - Appeared in the movies, "Block Party" and "State Property".
2007 - His mother and manager, Donda West, died from complications of plastic surgery.
