1949 - Graduated at Roosevelt College (now Roosevelt University), with a B.A. degree.

 

1965 - Elected as a Democratic representative to the Illinois state legislature,

 

1976 - Served as State Senator.

 

1980 - Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

 

1983-1987 - He became the Mayor of Chicago.(1st black Chicago mayor)

 

1987 - On 25th of November Washington died of a heart attack in his office.
