1936 - He attended the Vienna Consular Academy.
1944 - He graduated from the University of Vienna as a Doctor of Jurisprudence.
1945 - He joined the Austrian diplomatic service.
1948 - He served as First Secretary of the Legation in Paris.
1951 - He was head of the personnel department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Vienna.
1955 - He was appointed Permanent Observer for Austria to the United Nations.
1956 - Represented Austria in Canada as Minister Plenipotentiary.
1960 - He was head of the Political Department (West) in the Austrian Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
1964 - He was Chairman of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.
1968 - He was elected President of the first United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful
Uses of Outer Space.
- Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Austria.
1970 - He again became the Austrian Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
1971 - One of the two candidates for the Federal Presidency of Austria.
1973 - Addressed the Conference on European Security and Co-operation in Helsink.
1985 - Wrote autobiographies "In the Eye of the Storm".
