1867 - Twain met Olivia Langdon and were married in February 1870 in Elmira, New York.

 

1876 - 1889 - He wrote the novel "Tom Sawyer" (1876), "Huckleberry Finn" (1884) and "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" (1889).

 

1901 - 1910 - Was vice president of the American Anti-Imperialist League.

 

1906 - Acknowledged his literary paternity of this scatological masterpiece.

 

         - US humorist, novelist, short story author, and wit

 

         - William Faulkner (a fellow author) called Twain the "the father of American literature."
