Tailleferre, Germaine
1892 - Born on April 19th in Saint Maur Des Fossés, Ile-de-France, France. French composer Germaine (Marcelle) Tailleferre was the only female member of ‘Les Six’, a group of French composers influenced by Satie and by Cocteau’s anti-Romantic aesthetic. The 'Les Six' consisted of Georges Auric, Arthur Honegger, Francis Poulenc, Darius Milhaud and Louis Durey.
1897 - She was also a piano prodigy who began to compose at age 5.
1912 - At 21, she met some of the future 'Les Six' members Auric, Milhaud and Honegger in their counterpoint classes.
1904 - Entered Paris Conservatoire and studied with Ravel and Koechlin.
1923 - The Princess Edmond de Polignac, impressed by her talents especially ballet Le marchand d'oiseaux, commissioned her a Piano Concerto.
1925 - She married American caricaturist and author Ralph Barton.
1926-1927 - She lived in America, where Charlie Chaplin was often a live-in guest.
1931 - She married French lawyer Jean Lageat.
1983 - Died on November 7th in Paris, France.
