1879 – He was born on the 2nd day of October of this year in Reading, Pennsylvania.
1897 – He attended Harvard as a special student from this year to 1900 but did not graduate.
1903 – He graduated from New York law school.
1904 – He was admitted to the New York bar.
1909 – He married Elsie Kachel, a young woman from Reading.
1915 – His first work was published.
1916 – He joined the home office of the Hartford Accident and Indemnity and left New York City to live in Hartford, where he would remain the rest of his life.
1923 – His first book Harmonium was published by the distinguished firm of Alfred A. Knopf.
1930 – He began to write poems with renewed fluency.
1931 – The second edition of Harmonium, published in 1931, he added only eight new poems.
1934 – He had been named Vice President of his company.
1951 – He began to grow interested in putting his thoughts on aesthetics together in prose sentences, essays he collected in this year like ”The Necessary Angel”.
1955 – He died at the age of seventy-six in Hartford, Connecticut on 2nd day of August this year.
