1962 - Stephen Robert "Steve" Irwin, born on the 22nd of February in Essendon in Victoria, Australia. Part wildlife expert and part entertainer, he became world famous for his television series, The Crocodile Hunter, and other nature programs.

 

1979 - He graduated from Caloundra State High School.

 

1991 - He met American-born Terri Raines, who in was in Australia on vacation.

 

1992 - Married in June to Terri, in Eugene, Oregon. The footage, shot by John Stainton, of their crocodile-trapping honeymoon became the first episode of The Crocodile Hunter.

 

1998 - He continued, working with producer and director Mark Strickson, to present The Ten Deadliest Snakes in the World.

 

1999 - He had become very popular in the United States, making his first appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

 

2001 - Appeared as himself in the film Dr. Dolittle 2 with Eddie Murphy.

 

2002 - The Irwins appeared in the Wiggles video/DVD release Wiggly Safari, which was set in Irwin's Australia Zoo.

 

2003 - He was reportedly in line to host a talk show on Australian network television, a series that never went into production.

 

2004 - He stirred up even greater controversy for feeding a crocodile while holding his infant son.

 

2006 - On the 4th of September, he was working on a new program, filming at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Snorkeling near a stingray, he was pierced in the chest by its barb, which hit his heart. He died of cardiac arrest shortly after being stung.

 

         - He provided his voice for the animated film Happy Feet, as an elephant seal named Trev. The film was dedicated to him, as he died during post-production.
