1920 - Born in Kremenetz, Ukraine on the 21st of July.

1928 - He received his first music lessons from his mother before enrolling at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

1931 - He studied there until, then studied privately with Louis Persinger.

1932 - He returned to the San Francisco Conservatory to study with Naoum Blinder for five years. He said he owed the most to Blinder.

1936 - At his public début on the 18th of February, aged 16, he played Saint-Saëns' Violin Concerto No. 3 in B minor with the San Francisco Symphony orchestra, conducted by Pierre Monteux.

1949 - He married ballerina Nora Kaye in November, but their marriage ended in divorce.

1951 - On th 17th of August, Isaac married Vera Lindenblit.

1960 - He also played a major role in saving New York City's Carnegie Hall from demolition.

1987 - Stern received the Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement.

1994 - Their marriage ended in divorce in after 43 years of marriage.

1997 - On the 23rd of January, Isaac married his third wife, Linda Reynolds, who survived him.

2001 - Died on the 22nd of September of congestive heart failure. He was 81.
