1934 - William Forsyth Sharpe, born on the 16th of June. He is the STANCO 25 Professor of Finance, Emeritus at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.
1970 - He joined the Stanford faculty, having previously taught at the University of Washington and the University of California at Irvine.
1970 - 2007 - He has also written seven books, including Portfolio Theory and Capital Markets, Asset Allocation Tools (Scientific Press), Fundamentals of Investments (with Gordon J. Alexander and Jeffrey Bailey, Prentice-Hall), Investments (with Gordon J. Alexander and Jeffrey Bailey, Prentice-Hall) and Investors and Markets: Portfolio Choices, Asset Prices and Investment Advice (Princeton University Press).
1990 - He received the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.
1996 - He co-founded Financial Engines, a firm that provides investment management and advice for individuals in employer-sponsored retirement plans. He currently serves on its' board.
