1853-1854 - He served as Governor of New York.

1868 - He was president of the Democratic National Convention which met in New York City, and received its presidential nomination.

1886 - Died on the 12th of February and was interned in Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica, New York with his wife Mary Bleecker Seymour.
