1945 - Born at Skalken castle, west of Leitmeritz, Bohemia on the 22nd of January.
1945 - In September, his family was forced to flee from Bohemia.
1963 - Schönborn entered the Order of Preachers, and took his Matura exam.
1970-1971 - He was ordained to the priesthood by Franz Cardinal König on the 27th of December in Vienna. Fr. Schönborn obained a Licentiate of Sacred Theology.
1975 - He was professor of dogmatics at Freiburg im Üechtland.
1980 - He became a member of the International Theological Commission of the Holy See.
1987 - He became editorial secretary for the World Catechism.
1991 - He was chosen to become an Auxiliary Bishop of Vienna.
1995 - He became a coadjutor of the Archbishop of Vienna on the 11th of April and Archbishop of Vienna on the 14th September.
1998 - He was created Cardinal Priest of Gesù Divin Lavoratore by Pope John Paul II in the consistory on the 21st of February.
2005 - Schönborn was one of the cardinal electors who participated in the papal conclave that selected Pope Benedict XVI.
