630 BC - 612 BC - Was an Ancient Greek lyric poet, born on the island of Lesbos.
- She was also said to have been born in Eresos, another city on Lesbos.
581 BC - When Pittacus was no longer in power, she was able to return to her homeland. A tradition going back at least to Menander suggested that Sappho killed herself by jumping off the Leucadian cliffs for love of Phaon, a ferryman.
- Some scholars have suggested that this legend of Sappho's leap from the cliff over the love for a man may have resulted in part from a desire to discount her homosexuality.
570 BC - She died on Lesbos, Greece.
