2001 - Anthony Romero became executive director in September.

2005 - He was named one of Time Magazine's 25 Most Influential Hispanics. Additionally, Time has named him "The Champion of Civil Rights."

2006 - Referring to the August 17th, federal court declaration that the "Terrorist Surveillance Program" was unconstitutional, Romero called the court's opinion “another nail in the coffin in the Bush administration’s legal strategy in the war on terror.”
