Howard Ellsworth Rollins, Jr.
1950 - Howard Ellsworth Rollins, Jr., born on the 17th of October in Baltimore, Maryland. He was an American actor.
1960 - He played the role of "Slick" in the Maryland Public Television Series "Our Street," the nation's first black soap opera.
1984 - Starred in director Norman Jewison's film, A Soldier's Story which led to his role as Virgil Tibbs on the In the Heat of the Night television series based on Jewison's acclaimed film In the Heat of the Night.
1993 - He spent about a month in jail for driving under the influence and reckless driving.
1996 - He died on the 8th of December, after complications from AIDS-related lymphoma and was interred in the Woodlawn Cemetery in his native Baltimore.
