1808 - Born on the month of May.

 

Created and performed "Jim Crow" song and dance act (1st performed at Smith's Southern Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky, 1828), establishing black stereotype forming basis for subsequent minstrel shows.

 

1833 - Wrote plays "Long Island Juba" 1833, "Jim Crow in London" 1837.

 

1850 - Played the title role in the "Tom shows", loosely based on Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin.

 

His name is the probable source of phrase "Jim Crow" as applied to anti-black laws.
