1773 - Born in Cawsons, Prince George County, Virginia on June 2nd. A Representative and a Senator from Virginia. He was known as John Randolph of Roanoke to distinguish him from kinsmen.

         - He studied under private tutors, at private schools, the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), and Columbia College, New York City; studied law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but never practiced; engaged in several duels.

1799 - He was elected to the Sixth and to the six succeeding Congresses.

1804 - One of the managers appointed by the House of Representatives in January to conduct the impeachment proceedings against Judge John Pickering, and in December of the same year against Supreme Court Justice Samuel.

1812 - Unsuccessful candidate for election to the Thirteenth Congress; chairman, Committee on Ways and Means (Seventh through Ninth Congresses).

1815-1816 - Elected to the Fourteenth Congress and was not a candidate for reelection to the Fifteenth Congress

1819-1825 - Elected to the Sixteenth and to the three succeeding Congresses and served until his resignation, effective December 26th.

         - He was appointed to the United States Senate on December 8th, to fill the vacancy in the term, caused by the resignation of James Barbour

1827 - An unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Senate.

         - Elected to the Twentieth Congress and was not a candidate for reelection to the Twenty-first Congress.

1829 - The chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means (Twentieth Congress) and member of the Virginia constitutional convention at Richmond.

1830 - Appointed United States Minister to Russia by President Andrew Jackson and served until he resigned.

1833 - Elected to the Twenty-third Congress and served from March 4th, until his death in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 24th.
