1896 - Powell was born in Mount Gilead, Ohio on November 28, 1896.
1911 - Attended Lake Erie College, while studying she wrote stories and plays, active in the college productions and edited college newspaper.
1920 - Married Joseph Gousha.
1925 - Published her novel Whither.
1936 - Turn, the novel that was received was the first work that both received critical acclaim and reasonably good sales, and marked a turn to social satire in a New York setting.
1939 - Powell's publisher became Scribner's, where Maxwell Perkins was her editor.
1942 - Published her first commercially successful novel, A Time to Be Born
1964 - She died of intestinal cancer on November 14, 1965.
