1770 - Born in Prince William County, Virginia. A Senator and a representative from Kentucky.
1802 - Admitted to the bar and practiced in Washington, Shelby, and Fayette Counties.
1806 - Became a member at the State house of representatives.
1807-1813 - Elected as a Democratic Republican to the United States Senate.
1825-1829 - Served as President pro tempore of the Senate during the Eleventh Congress and a member in the State senate.
- Territorial Governor of Arkansas.
1837-1843 - Resumed the practice of law in Springfield, Kentucky and elected as a Whig to the Twenty-fifth, Twenty-sixth, and Twenty-seventh Congresses.
- Unsuccessful candidate for re-election to the Twenty-eighth Congress.
1845 - Died on July 12th in Springfield, Washington County, Kentucky interment in the cemetery at Springfield.
