1935 - He come to the United States to study architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B. Arch.) and the Harvard Graduate School of Design (M. Arch.).

1942 - Married to Eileen Loo.

1945-1948 - He was a assistant professor in Graduate School of Design, Harvard University.

1954 - Became a naturalized American citizen.

1958 - He formed the partnership of I. M. Pei & Associates, which become I.M. Pei & Partners.

1968 - The partnership received the Architectural Firm Award of The American Institute of Architects.

1978 - He designed the East Building of National Gallery of Art.

1982 - The deans of the architectural schools of the United States chose 1. M. Pei as the best designer of significant non-residential structures.

1983 - Received the International Pritzker Architecture Prize.

1987 - Received the French Legion of Honor.

1988 - Recipient of the National Medal of Arts.

1995 - He designed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

2003 - Appeared in the film, My Architect: A Son's Journey.
