1921 - Born on June 22nd in Brooklyn, New York. American theatrical producer and director, founder of the New York Shakespeare Festival and the Public Theatre.

1946-1948 - Papp studied acting and directing at the Actor's Laboratory Theatre in Hollywood.

2001 - His new version of The Pirates of Penzeance was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Outstanding Musical Production.
