Noyes, Alfred

1880 - Alfred Noyes, born on the 16th of September in Wolverhampton, England. He was the son of Alfred and Amelia Adams Noyes.

1902 - His first volume of verse, Loom of Years, appeared.

1908 - It was followed by such poems as the epic Drake.

1913 - Another poem, the colorful Tales of the Mermaid Tavern.

1914 - 1923 - He was professor of English literature at Princeton.

1922 - 1930 - His later writings include The Torch Bearers, a trilogy in verse on man's scientific accomplishments.

1925 - He converted to Roman Catholicism; The Unknown God is an account of his conversion.

1929 - Made The Sun Cure, a novel.

1938 - He was the author of the  biography of Voltaire.

1950 - His collected poems were published. He was a literary conservative who adhered to traditional models in the structure and substance of his poetry. His poems, highly colored and romantic, are often marred by sentimentality.

1953 - His autobiography, Two Worlds for Memory, was published.

1958 - Died at the age of 78, on the 28th of June and was buried on the Isle of Wight.
