1960 - He made attempts over the decades to identify his ancestral village in India. 1971 - He became the first Person of Indian origin to win a Booker Prize for his book In a Free State. 1998 - He published the Paul Theroux a controversial Memior. 2001 - He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. - His works praised by the Swedish Academy for having a united perceptive narrative.
