Mudgett, Herman Webster
Born: May 16, 1860 AD
Died: 1896 AD, at 35 years of age.
1860 - Born on May 16th into a prominent family in Gilmanton, New Hampshire, Mudgett appeared to have everything going for him. The first American serial-killer and possibly the most prolific, he was also a con-man and a bigamist.
1879 - Married to Clara A. Lovering of Alton, New Hampshire on July 8th.
1884 - Graduated from U-M Medical School and moved to Chicago to practice pharmacy.
1887 - Married to Myrta Z. Belknap in Minneapolis, Minnesota while still married to his first wife.
1891 - He began construction of a hotel at the corner of 63rd street in Chicago.
1894 - Married to Gerogiana Yoke.
1895 - He was arrested and received the death sentence.
1896 - He was hanged at Moyamensing Prison on May 7th in Philadelphia.
- The Holmes "crime of the century" was also the subject of another work in the Medler Collection, The Holmes-Pitezel Case, a "true detective" story, published in Philadelphia "by permission of the district attorney and the mayor".
