Miller, Donald

1940 – He was born this year in Honolulu, Hawaii. He like other Navy brats attended a mixture of public schools, in Bethesda, Cleveland, Faison, San Diego, and Newport.

1958 – He graduated high school in Bethesda this year. He majored in philosophy of religion, took classes in music, and played the alto and baritone saxophone in a jazz quintet called The Modern Men.

1965 – With a M.D. degree in hand, he went to New York for two surgical residencies. The first one was in general surgery, at Roosevelt Hospital.

1970 – He next served two years active duty in the Navy in North Carolina as a Lieutenant Commander, doing surgery on marines and their families at the Naval Hospital in Camp Lejeune.

1974 – He started practice at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle.

1975 – A year later joined the faculty at the University Of Washington School Of Medicine, as an Assistant Professor.

1978 – Then he became an Associate Professor and Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery until 1980.

1980 – He went back to Swedish and practiced adult cardiac surgery from this year until 2002.

1994 – He served as Medical Director of the Swedish Heart Institute until 1997.

2003 - At present, he once again on the faculty at the UW School of Medicine as a Professor of Surgery, he run the cardiothoracic surgery program at the Seattle VA Medical Center from this year up to this present time.
