McGrath, Kathleen
1952 - Kathleen McGrath, born in the United States. She was the first woman to command a United States Navy warship.
1975 - Graduated from California State University at Sacramento.
1980 - Worked in the United States Forestry Service.
1990 - She participated in the operation intended to protect Saudi Arabia after Iraq invaded Kuwait.
1993 - 1994 - ommanded the rescue and salvage ship Recovery.
2000 - She became commander of the frigate USS Jarrett.
- She was appointed to this post six years after Congress revoked rules prohibiting women from serving on combat aircraft and warships.
2002 - Died on the 26th of September due to Lung cancer at at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland at the age of 50.
