1941-1945 - Assistant Secretary of War which he was noted for opposing the nuclear bombing of Japan.

1947-1949 - Served as the President of the World Bank.

 

1949-1952 - Replaced Lucius D. Clay who was the Military Governor for the U.S.Zone in Germany as the U.S.

High Commissioner for Germany.

 

1953-1960 - He served as chairman of the Chase Manhattan Bank.

 

1954-1970 - Chairman of the prestigious Council on Foreign Relations in New York.

 

1958-1965 - chairman of the Ford Foundation.

 

1963 - Awarded the prestigious Sylvanus Thayer Award by the United States Military Academy at West Point.

 

1989 - John Jay McCloy died 11th of March in Stamford, Connecticut.
