1921 - Maldin was born in Mountain Park, New Mexico on October 29, 1921.
1936 - Attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts.
1940 - Entered the U.S. Army to fight in World War II. Began drawing cartoons about the soldire life and created two fictional cartoon characters, Willie and Joe. Mauldin began working for Stars and Stripes, an American soldiers' newspaper.
1945 - At the age of twenty-three, he won the Pulitzer Prize.
1956 - He run for a position but lost in the New York's 28th Congressional District.
1958 - Returned to cartooning on the editorial pages of the Saint Louis Post-Dispatch.
1959 - Won his second Pulitzer Prize and the National Cartoonist Society Award for Editorial Cartooning.
1961 - Received the Reuben Award.
1962 - Mauldin moved to the Chicago Sun-Times where he worked with another radical cartoonist.
2003 - Mauldin died due to respiratory failure at a nursing home in Newport Beach.
