1938 – He was born Paul Edgar Philippe Martin on the 28th day of August this year born in Windsor, Ontario. As a teen, he attended the University of Ottawa, which was actually a secondary school.
1961- Martin then went on to study at the University of St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto, and graduated with a BA in history and philosophy on this year.
1965 - He followed his father's path to the University of Toronto Law School where he received his LL.B in this year. This year he also married Sheila Ann Cowan, and they have three sons, Paul, Jamie, and David. Mr. Martin's third son, David is married and the father of Martin's first grandchild Ethan Martin.
1966 – He was called to the Ontario Bar this year.
1970 - Paul Martin, the 32-year old executive assistant to Power Corporation Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maurice Strong, was appointed to the CSL board of directors.
1973 - Paul Martin was appointed President and CEO of the CSL Group.
1988 – He has been the Member of Parliament for the riding of LaSalle—Émard in Montreal since this year.
1993 – He was the Minister of Finance from this year until 2002.
1994 – He placed his shares in CSL Group Inc. under a "Supervisory Agreement" to be managed by lawyers and financial advisers, although he would be allowed to intervene in company decision-making should events warrant.
2002 – He quit the cabinet as Minister of Finance to pursue a bid for leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada.
2003 – On the 12th day of December this year, he became Prime Minister. Martin remained as Prime Minister until the Harper minority government was sworn in February 6, 2006.
