Louis B. Marshall

1856 - Louis B. Marshall, born on the 14th of December in Syracuse, New York, USA. He was a corporate and constitutional lawyer, mediator and Jewish community leader who worked to secure religious, political, and cultural freedom for all minority groups.

1877 - Educated in public schools and at Columbia Law School.

1894 - He practised in Syracuse, NY and in New York City, where he became notable for his defence of minorities in civil-rights cases.

1915 - He also led a floor fight to protect the forever wild clause of the New York State Constitution. For eighteen years after the founding of the New York State College of Forestry (now the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry),

1919 - A co-founder of the American Jewish Committee, he attended the Paris Peace Conference and worked to include anti-discrimination clauses into various treaties.

1920 - He helped Jewish refugees settle in Palestine, in the hope that the country, then a British protectorate, would become a permanent homeland for Jews.

1929 - Died on the month of September in Zurich, Switzerland.
