1856 - Born on the 25th of July.
1872-1875 - Major developed in interest in both law and English history at an early age and attended the University of Michigan.
1877 - Admitted to the Indiana bar association.
1898 - He published his first novel, When Knighthood Was in Flower.
1899 - Closing his law practice over a year after his first novel.
1902 - His second novel, Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall, another historical romance, this time set in Elizabethan times, rivaled the success of his first.
1913 - Died of liver cancer on the 13th of February at his home in Shelbyville, Indiana.
