1741 - He graduated from Yale University and then studied law.

1748 - He was admitted to the bar and began his practice in New York.

1772 - He moved to Elizabethtown, New Jersey, where he built a large country home to house his growing family.

1774-1776 - He was a member of the Continental Congress.

      - In October, he was commissioned a brigadier general of the New Jersey Militia.

      - He was elected Governor of New Jersey

1779 - The family was located in Parsippany for safety.

1747- Her sister Sarah was married of Continental General William Alexander their daughter was married to William Duer.

1787 - He was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and one of the signers of the Constitution.

1790 - Died on the 25th of July in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
