1872 - Born on January 23rd in Paris. French physicist who contributed to the studies of magnetism and X-ray emissions, especially paramagentic (weak attractive) and diamagnetic (weak repulsive) phenomena in gases.

1902 - Langevin became director of the Ecole Municipale de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles, where he had been teaching.

1904 - He was professor at the Collège de France.

1915 - Recipient of Hughes Medal.

1940 - Received the Copley Medal.

1944 - He was arrested by the Nazis for his antifascist views. He escaped to Switzerland, returning after the liberation of Paris.

1946 - Died on December 19th in Paris.
