1763 - Born in Doansburg, Putnam County, New York on July 31st.

1790-1791 - Lawyer and member of New York state assembly from Dutchess County.

1793 - He was a candidate for U.S. Representative from New York.

1798 - He was the Justice of New York Supreme Court.

1826-1828 - Wrote 4-volume "Commentaries on American Law", the first comprehensive treatment of the subject.

1847 - Died in New York, New York County, New York on December 12th. Interment somewhere in Fishkill, N.Y. Kent County, Michigan is named for him.

1900 - Elected to the Hall of Fame for Great Americans.
