Keith Lionel Urban
1967 - Keith Lionel Urban born on the 26th of October in Whangarei, North Island, New Zealand. Keith Urban was born in New Zealand and grew up in Australia. He says he knew when he was just seven years old that he would go to Nashville and play country music for a living. 1973 - He first picked up a guitar at age 6. 1981 - At fourteen, he had steady club gigs with a band. During that time he bought a Dire Straits album. The style of the album fused with his own onstage solos, creating a signature style Urban likes to call "funktry." 1990 - He won Starmaker. - Before venturing forth as a solo country music artist, was a member of the country band called "The Ranch." 1991 - His first album "Keith Urban" was released. 1992 - He won Golden Guitars. 1997 - "The Ranch" self-titled debut album was released. 2001 - Received the Horizon Award at the Country Music Association Awards. - Scored his first No. 1 hit on Billboard magazine's Country Singles and Tracks chart with "But for the Grace of God" in February. 2004 - 2005 - Became the first Aussie artist to win Male Vocalist of the Year. 2005 - He won Entertainer of the Year. - Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year 2006 - Checked himself into a rehabilitation treatment center of alcohol abuse on the 19th of October. - Married to Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman on the 25th of June. - Grammy Best Male Country Vocal Performance for "You'll Think Of Me".
