Jones, James

1740 - He moved with his uncle to Georgia and studied law in Savannah, Georgia, and gained admission to the state bar and became a practicing attorney.

1790 - He also served as a first lieutenant in the Georgia Militia.

1796 – He was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives.

1798 – He was re-elected to that body. He also served on the state constitutional convention and won election as an at-large member to the United States House of Representatives.

1801 - He died while still serving in that position. He was buried in Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D.C.. Jones County, Georgia, was named in his honor.
