1845 - He was born in Ludlow. He served with the Royal Horse Artillery, hence his excellent depiction and understanding of the animal form. He was a painter and sculptor primarily of horses.

1866 - Studied at the Royal Veterinary College, qualifying as a veterinary surgeon.

1867 - Enrolling in the Army as a veterinary officer in the Royal Horse Artillery the following year.

1890 - Achieved the rank of captain and retired.

1891 - Set himself up in Chelsea as an artist. He had no formal art training, but prospered with commissions for horse portraits.

         - He was active in London where he exhibited paintings at the Royal Academy and Grosvenor Gallery.
